Flower Mound High School opened its doors in 1999 with only grades 9 and 10. The school did not have an ice hockey team, so students were allowed to play for Marcus or Lewisville High Schools. 2001 was Flower Mound High School's 1st year with grades 9-12. This now allowed the students an opportunity, with enough potential hockey interest, to create their own ice hockey club.
The Flower Mound High School Hockey Club began in 2001 with 50 players in attendance for team tryouts, including several experienced varsity players and a talented goalie. Many programs begin with just a junior varsity program, but FMHS didn't need to. The new Head Coach and eight of the players were on the previous season's Lewisville team that qualified for the state tournament. There was now enough talent within the student body to form both a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. The Jaguar's entrance into the Southwestern Bell Metroplex High School Hockey League brought the total number of varsity teams to 27.
The now named AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League started in 1997 with only four varsity teams and has grown to his present size of seventy teams. Both Varsity and JV each include a Gold and Silver division. At the Varsity Gold level, the four City Semi Final teams advance on to the sanctioned USA Hockey State Finals.
In celebration of our 10th anniversary this year, the Club hosted a special Alumni Fund-raising Game on New Years Eve. This wonderfully successful event saw more than forty former players, including several members of the 2001 inaugural squad, return to the ice for a great day of fun and competition.
